Halloween falls on Saturday this year, giving Sarasota families a full weekend to celebrate without squeezing everything into a school night.

From Friday, October 30, through Sunday, November 1, 2026, the area offers costume outings, illuminated garden paths and a waterfront music finale.

The trick is choosing a comfortable pace: pick a neighborhood celebration, leave room for dinner and make the evening about enjoying the community together.

Friday: BooFest on Main Street

Nearby Lakewood Ranch gets the weekend rolling with BooFest on Main Street on October 30 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The free gathering at 8100 Lakewood Main Street brings trick-or-treating at merchant and vendor booths, food and drink vendors, and live music.

The Kids’ Zone includes face painting, balloon twisting, inflatables and hands-on experiments, giving children more to do than simply fill their candy bags.

No registration is required, and families should bring costumes and a trick-or-treat tote.

Admission is free, but plan separately for anything you choose to buy from food or drink vendors.

Friday: A south-county Spooktacular

Families looking farther south can head to Downtown Wellen Park for its October 30 Spooktacular, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m.

The celebration includes trick-or-treating, costumes, DJ entertainment and family activities, with a dog costume contest adding a four-legged twist.

This is a useful early-evening choice for families who prefer to start before dark or want time for a meal afterward.

Check the organizer’s current event information for contest instructions and any updates before leaving home.

Friday and Saturday: Lights at Spooky Point

At Selby Gardens’ Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey, Lights at Spooky Point continues through October 31.

The Halloween-inspired walk follows illuminated paths through the grounds, combining botanical themes with creations intended to be campy, creepy and cute.

Entry times are 6:30 and 7:45 p.m., and the event ends at 9 p.m.

The location is 401 North Tamiami Trail in Osprey, rather than Selby Gardens’ downtown Sarasota campus.

Check ticket prices and available entry times before planning your visit; ordinary daytime garden admission should not be treated as the evening event price.

Parking is limited, and the organizer encourages carpooling.

Saturday: Fright Night on the Circle

St. Armands Circle’s merchants host Fright Night on Saturday, October 31, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

For families who enjoy combining costumes with a stroll around the Circle, the scheduled evening offers an easy centerpiece for Halloween plans.

Allow time to reach the island, park and walk to the businesses instead of arriving at the last minute.

Confirm merchant participation and any event updates through the association’s calendar, and budget separately for parking, food or shopping.

Sunday: Finish with music at The Bay

The weekend does not have to end when the candy buckets are put away.

Best of the Bay Music Fest is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, from 1 to 7 p.m. at The Bay Park, 1055 Boulevard of the Arts.

The free, family-friendly festival closes the park’s month-long fourth-anniversary community celebration.

It offers a change of pace after Halloween night, with an afternoon built around music rather than costumes.

Check the park’s event listing for registration information and the latest program before heading downtown.

Make the weekend easy

Choose outings by location and your family’s energy level, and check organizers’ pages for weather notices, ticket availability and schedule changes.

A little advance planning leaves more time for the good part: costumes, neighbors and a memorable Sarasota weekend.
