A weekend trip inland can take Sarasota families somewhere unexpectedly far from ordinary life when the Sarasota Medieval Fair opens its 2026 season on Saturday, November 7.

The fair returns to Woods of Mallaranny in Myakka City for Saturdays and Sundays through December 6, with daily hours of 9:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

That gives residents five weekends to choose from, beginning with November 7 and 8.

The setting is part of the appeal: a wooded village where performances, crafts and costumed characters create an outing built around wandering and discovery.

Make room for the performances

Armored jousting is among the featured attractions, alongside music, comedy and an artisan marketplace.

The 2026 show list includes New Riders of the Golden Age and a human combat chess production using live performers as pieces.

Families should check the ratings beside individual shows because the program includes both family-friendly acts and performances identified as PG-13.

One sensible approach is to choose a few must-see shows and let the rest of the visit unfold between them.

Check the current program on arrival, since times and stage locations can change.

The marketplace also gives shoppers a chance to look for handmade items and watch demonstrations rather than rushing straight from one performance to another.

Young visitors have dedicated activities in the Children’s Realm, and the show list includes a daily children’s knighting ceremony.

Choose your day before buying

Tickets are date-specific and capacity-limited, so select the intended visit date carefully and use the official ticket page to check current prices and availability.

Admission includes the scheduled shows and Children’s Realm activities, while food, purchases, games and rides can add to the day’s total.

Parking is free, but an early start remains useful.

The organizer lists parking lots opening at 9 a.m., ahead of the 9:45 a.m. opening ceremony.

Download or screenshot tickets before traveling in case mobile service is unreliable when you arrive.

Bring a realistic budget for meals and extras, and check the payment guidance because some vendors primarily accept cash.

Dress for an outdoor day

Costumes are welcome but optional, so comfortable everyday clothing works perfectly well for a first visit.

Walking shoes matter more than an elaborate outfit on paths that include grass, mulch, dirt and small rocks.

Anyone using a mobility aid should review the terrain information before deciding how much of the grounds to cover.

The fair welcomes wheelchairs and mobility devices but does not list on-site rentals.

Plan rest breaks and pick a manageable route rather than trying to see every corner in one afternoon.

The grounds are at 29847 FL-70 East in Myakka City, so use that destination when planning the drive.

Do not assume the Sarasota name means the event is downtown or near the beaches.

Review the rules for food, water bottles, service animals and costume accessories before packing for the day.

The fair operates rain or shine, although weather can affect individual attractions.

Check the forecast, the organizer’s latest notices and the performance schedule shortly before leaving.

For a family that enjoys live entertainment and a little make-believe, opening weekend offers a ready-made reason to set aside the usual routine.

Choose a day, reserve the appropriate tickets, and allow enough time to experience the village at a comfortable pace.
